2015 3rd Quarter Sponsorship

Welcome to our Pulse Gives Back Sponsorship Page!

We are honored to share the story of PFS’ Clients, Karen and Leon Ulfers of Naperville, IL.

Who doesn’t love dogs? We had dogs as our daughter Meagan was growing up. She has chosen to be a professional dog handler for her career, AKC Certified.

A Search Dog Working in Nepal Following the April 25th Earthquake

My husband Leon and I became involved with the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation after 9/11. The impact of 9/11 was astounding for us Americans. We learned of the foundation after seeing the rescue efforts for this national disaster. The AKC honored these rescue dogs during the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, NY,NY. These dogs have now all passed, but the organization is involved still with training.

The foundation was founded in 1996 by Wilma Melville, a retired school teacher from New Jersey, and a mother of grown sons. It is a non-profit, non governmental foundation. Headquarters are in Ojai, CA. however the new developing training center is being built in Santa Paula, CA. It is through the integral partnering of our Army and Navy Engineering Troops who started building the site in 2014, and continue this year. It is the only organization in the US that partners rescued dogs with firefighters. They train, and when completing their training, are deployed for the disasters nationwide and all over the world.

A Search Dog Returns Home to His Family After a Business Trip

Leon and I met two teams last spring as they visited Chicago. We were surprised to learn they are only trained for finding human life, not cadavers. They did a demonstration, which was also a learning experience. We could see the bond between the teams. They are also part of that firefighters/handler’s family. The foundation has a lifetime care commitment for all the dogs accepted into the program.

The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation is doing good for people hit unexpectedly with disaster. It is also compelling to know that their search teams are made up of rescued dogs.
I hope you find a bit of a “tug” at your hearts for this organization, and “Like It”
