Pulse Financial Services 2020 2nd Quarter Sponsorship

Welcome to our Pulse Gives Back Sponsorship Page!

We are honored to share the story of PFS’ Clients Matt and Amber Zerby.

I’m an avid reader. I’ve always been a fan of crime and law novels – fact or fiction…it didn’t matter, I enjoy them both. I remember reading To Kill a Mockingbird early on in my school age years and being moved by both the injustice that Tom Robinson endured (being found guilty of a crime he did not commit) as well as the resolve and integrity that Atticus Finch showed in his representation of Robinson. Later in life I would see the injustice of our justice system play out closer to home in the form of Spanish-speaking employees and their families being forced to navigate a judicial system that even the most educated English-speaking person finds challenging.  I tried my best to help them with issues when I could; problems with a landlord, or parking tickets issued by the City of Chicago for vehicles that were never in the city – but the deck was stacked against them and oftentimes my help (as a layperson not educated in matters of law) wasn’t enough.

You know it’s interesting, we’ve all seen a tv show police officer read someone their Miranda Rights… You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law, if you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. I didn’t even have to look that up – I can recite it from memory.  I’m sure many of us can…but what happens when you’re not a criminal facing an arrest and conviction, but an everyday law-abiding citizen who finds themselves in need of legal representation but can’t afford to pay for the very services that they can’t go without. In 2019 the national average hourly rate for an attorney is $225 / hour and much higher in metropolitan areas. That’s where Administer Justice steps in.

Administer Justice believes no one should have to face confusing legal challenges alone.  They empower vulnerable neighbors with the help of a lawyer and the hope of God’s love.  Trained teams of volunteers welcome each client with hospitality, offer prayer, assist with forms, listens to concerns, creates a custom next-step plan, connect clients with additional social and spiritual resources and walks alongside them with compassion and care.  A client only pays a one-time dignity fee of $30.  Administer Justice restores hope and provides freedom from legal fear so neighbors can flourish.

Each year Administer Justice serves thousands of individuals trapped by fear in confusing legal circumstances.  They establish neighborhood location sites to make it easy to access an attorney (currently 103 locations with a goal of 1,000).  Each location has trained volunteers from all walks of life serving neighbors in need.  Whether the immigrant worker, elderly parent, single mom, or someone desperately needing clarity, Administer Justice is there to help.  And for all who are open, they share the hope of the gospel and the love of Christ.  They truly model what it means to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God.
