Pulse Financial Services 2016 4th Quarter Sponsorship

Welcome to our Pulse Gives Back Sponsorship Page!

We are honored to share the story of PFS’ Client, Gina Jones of Naperville, IL.

As a parent, your instincts are to protect your kids and keep them healthy and safe. Sometimes your child’s fight to live becomes your fight.  If you win, you are driven to make a positive impact for others.  My friend Christine and her family are on the path of winning, and I must share with you a story about the Neitzke family.

Christine and Matt During Treatment

Christine and Jim Neitzke’s youngest son Matt was 10 years old when he was diagnosed in February 2010 with stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. That shocking diagnosis changed their lives forever.  Matt began fighting hard every day to not let a horrific disease take over, and the family was trying to control the chaos surrounding them. The Neitzkes were very blessed that Matt has been cancer free now for 2 years and got through it with much support from family, friends, their church and even some strangers.

One thing they noticed was that other patients and families at Cincinnati Children’s hospital didn’t have the same support as the Neitzkes.  Others didn’t receive care packages for extended stays, or access to toys, video games, special events for patients or parents, or any distraction to help the patient and family feel “normal” if just for a few hours.

Christine and her long time friend Ria knew that they needed to bring something to the patients and families to help them find comfort and joy during their fight against cancer. Their belief is “until there is a cure, we can’t forget to care.” The Dragonfly Foundation was founded to provide positive experiences and distractions that pull the patient and their family away from feeling isolated, lonely, fearful or anxious.  Their dragonflies have access to family events, meet and greet with celebrities and sports figures, arts and crafts, parents night out, gift card programs, care packages and many other opportunities for the patient and families to experience comfort and joy. The Dragonfly Foundation works closely with children’s hospitals in Cincinnati, Dayton, and expanded recently in Chicago at Lurie Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital of Loyola University Health System. Please visit dragonfly.org to learn more about their work.

Life has a way of bringing you to people that you were meant to meet. It happens all the time. In my case, Christine had a lasting effect on me. As a parent, my heart was pushing me to do something and I started volunteering my time and fundraising efforts to help Dragonfly Foundation here in Chicago.  I need to share her story and hope you can understand as a parent, aunt, uncle, brother, or sister, that her cause is very important and needs your attention. I know it got mine.
